Schaumburg Youth Orchestra – Chicagoland NW Suburban IL Real Estate & Community

There is something really wonderful about hearing a live orchestra play for a performance. Schaumburg is lucky to have a thriving arts scene with such a group – the Schaumburg Youth Orchestra. As the City website says:

“Close your eyes and listen – you’ll never guess that such beautiful music is being performed by a student orchestra.”

Schaumburg Youth Orchestra is an award winning ensemble founded back in 1989 as a recreational and educational outlet for young advanced musicians in the Schaumburg area. The Schaumburg Youth Orchestra (SYO for short!) started as a string ensemble with just 16 members and has grown to more than 10 times this size and is now a fully fledged orchestra!

As they grew, Brass musicians were next added and now the full orchestra is made up of several ensembles and was recently restructured to facilitate a progressive graduation from one ensemble to the next and the current registration number is at 180 musicians coming from Schaumburg and over thirty surrounding communities. The program enrolls new and returning members by audition at the beginning summer and they perform in various places including two concerts annually at the Prairie Center for the Arts. The Symphony Orchestra has performed not only locally, but also abroad with concert tours of Germany, Austria, Prague and Budapest, Japan, and Italy and have recorded three CD’s!

Which brings nicely onto their other great event that they play in each year – The Schaumburg Youth Symphony Orchestra annual Presto! Holiday Concert featuring classical and contemporary seasonal works. This year they will be at the Prairie Center for the Arts on Saturday, December 17, 2011 3:30pm and 7:30pm. Definitely worth visiting!

As you can see, Schaumburg has a great local community which includes some talented musicians and more!
