Moving to a new town or city can be exciting and never racking – asides from the regular moving planning and the stress of moving day itself, there is always the worry about “learning” your new community – small things, where do I register my car, purchase a permit or license, pay my bills? All of these small things are definitely important in their own right, but collectively they can be a real headache and take you time to learn.
Thankfully here in Schaumburg our city website has a great guide to follow. Here are the most important items below – linked to relevant past blog posts which I have written on the subject and official sites to give you more background reading on Schaumburg!
EMERGENCY SERVICES:
Schaumburg Police and Fire Departments – Dial 311 in Schaumburg or 847.895.4500 from outside.
Pet Licenses – Contact the Finance department of Schaumburg. Present current rabies inoculation certificate and pay the fee – these are renewable each year by April 30th.
Vehicle Licenses – Schaumburg removed the requirement for these this April.
Water Billing – To set up your water billing account please complete the application and submit it to our Water Billing Division. For more information please call 847.923.4520. Read our post about water rates in Schaumburg from last year AND about a new payment site for bill payers.
Other Utilities – current garbage collector, power, gas and telecoms providers in the area.
Schools – Schaumburg is served by three elementary school districts, one high school district, a community college, and two universities! Wow!
Schaumburg Township District 54
Palatine Community Consolidated District 15
Township High School District 211 includes five high schools, three which serve Schaumburg students
Harper College, a local community college, is located in Palatine
Roosevelt University has a Schaumburg campus at 1400 North Roosevelt Boulevard
University of Phoenix has a campus in Schaumburg at 1500 McConnor Parkway, Suite 700
The Illinois Institute of Art — has a campus in Schaumburg at 1000 N. Plaza Drive, Suite 100
