Chicagoland NW Suburban IL Real Estate & News: New Deputy Mayor for Hoffman Estates & The 2010 Census is coming!

Lots of news for Hoffman Estates!

First, some local politics; The Hoffman Estates board has voted Trustee Gary Pilafas as the village’s new deputy mayor, replacing Trustee Cary Collins. The deputy mayor’s chief duty is to step in case the mayor cannot serve the duties of the offices. Pilafas’ term as deputy mayor will last until April 20, 2011.

Also, the Village is preparing us all, as we have all heard, the 2010 US Census is coming!

Residents need to do their part by filling out and returning the form as soon as you receive it. It only takes 10 minutes, and your information is kept confidential.

As you also probably know the census is a count of everyone living in the United States. The first census was taken in 1790, and has been taken every 10 years since as mandated by the U.S. Constitution.

The Census is important as it is required to order voting districts, Electoral College votes, allocation of Federal Aid and more!

Participation in the census is required by law. The simple questionnaire will be mailed to every household in the Village in mid-March. If you are a household that did not receive a form you need to contact the local census office, located at 1208 W. Northwest Highway, Palatine, IL 60067, 847-221-1250, to receive one.

Residents who do not return their postage-paid form will get a reminder postcard to ensure compliance. If they still do not respond, the household will be visited by a census taker. The U.S. Census Bureau suggests setting a goal to mail your form back by April 1. The form is easier than ever before – if you are curious you can view a sample form on the Census website: www.2010.census.gov
