New garage sale requirements for 2012 in Hoffman Estates, IL – Chicagoland NW Suburban IL Real Estate & Community

Earlier this year you may remember that I wrote about the great community wide Garage sale that took place in Bartlett, IL. Well, what about Garage Sales in another part of the Northwest Chicagoland Suburbs, like Hoffman Estates, IL?

Apart from listings of local garage sales in Hoffman Estates, it just so happens that this month (November) in the Hoffman Estates Citizen Newsletter (Download PDF) garage sales are mentioned. Although not as a list of future events, but the new local ordinance for Garage Sales in Hoffman Estates in 2012. As I said before, I will say it again, Garage sales are definitely an American tradition where one persons junk is another persons treasure.

So for those residents of Hoffman Estates who are looking to hold a garage sale after the new Village ordinance goes into effect on Jan. 1, 2012 pay attention!

Some of the new requirement are:

• A no-fee permit is required from Hoffman Estates. This can be applied for on the Village website or at Village Hall.
• Garage sales are only allowed on Thursdays, Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays.
• Each garage sale may be held for up to three consecutive days.
• A maximum of three garage sales are allowed at the same address during the calendar year (January to December).
• Garage sale hours will be between 9 a.m. to no later than 5 p.m.
• Only one onsite garage sale sign is permitted on the front lawn.
• Up to two directional signs may be allowed, but only with the permission of the property owner.
• Signs shall not be posted prior to 6 a.m. on the day of the sale, and must be removed within three hours of the conclusion of the sale, or 8 p.m. at the latest.
• Garage sale signs are not permitted to be posted in the Village right-of-way.

Don’t be tempted to break these new rules as with all ordinances a code enforcement officer could catch you!
