Christmas is in the air! All of the department stores at the Woodfield Mall are full of Christmas gifts, decorations and of course, that fantastic festive spirit!

Take “Christmas in the Valley” for example, held at Spring Valley’s Volkening Heritage Farm and Merkle Log Cabin on Saturday December 3rd & Sunday December 4th 2011. It is a fun event to enjoy with the whole family where you celebrate the holiday by turning back the clock to a bygone age. Learning about how German American farm families in 19th century Schaumburg celebrated Christmas.

On offer will be traditional foods, simple homemade gifts and a chance to see the usual farm chores. Definitely a wonderful education experience for the kids who, like all visitors will meet a traditional St. Nicholas and enjoy a cup of soup by the fireplace at the log cabin – perfect to get into that festive spirit. The event also includes holiday treats such as refreshments, cookie decorating, as well as arts & crafts. Fun for the whole family!

Those looking to attend this great local community event can find directions here: 1111 E. Schaumburg Road where a shuttle bus will take you to the farm. Admission is $2 per person or $8 per family of six or fewer. Additional family members are $2 each. It’s free for children age 3 and younger.
